November 17th (9am-5pm) and 18th (11am-3pm) – Dedicated Weekend Sci-Fi Book Sale! A large personal library of science fiction books was generously donated earlier this year. But as we don’t have space to put them all on the shelves at once we have decided to have a dedicated table sale outside the Bookshop for one weekend only…. that’s right we will be opening on a Sunday especially between 11am-3pm, with normal hours on Saturday. You’ll discover a large selection across several tables with many classics and rarer older publications.
November 13th – An ‘after 5’ Bookshop Celebration & AGM with guest speaker OXFAM Australia CEO – Helen Szoke. All volunteers, supporters and interested members of the public welcome.
Details: 5pm at the Australian Education Union headquarters – 163 Greenhill Road, Parkside (Porter Street Entrance). A very brief AGM, the main business of which will be the election of Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer, will be followed by a talk given by our special guest, Dr Helen Szoke, Chief Executive Officer of Oxfam Australia. Liquid refreshments will be served, and if you wish you could bring a small plate to share. You will have the chance to mingle with fellow volunteers, the Committee, and also to ask questions of Helen.

August – ‘Curl up with a Good Book’ winter promotion. If you are in hibernation mode, why not while away the wintry days by curling up a with a good book and a cuppa. What could be nicer? Come and stock-up for Winter reading at the Bookshop with books and OXFAM’s fair trade coffee, tea and chocolate….
July 3 – 14th – Crime Fiction Fortnight ‘Looking for a little mystery in your life?’ – Visit us for all your crime fiction needs with crime, mystery and thriller writing from around the world. This year we have special feature displays of classic crime writing and women writers.
May 26th – ‘What’s Your Story?’ – Take home some practical tips and personal insights from three local writers who have researched, written and published local history, family histories and memoirs in the South Australian setting. Featuring Dr Geoffrey Bishop – local historian, writer of numerous local history books and articles, and past President of the Historical Society of South Australia; Kym Pennifold from SA Genealogy and Heraldry Society Inc and author of the engaging The Pennifolds at Largs; and last but not least the Bookshop’s own Peter Mitchell who recently wrote and self-published an entertaining memoir for his family titled, An Adelaide Story: Ten Cars, A Couple of Pushbikes, A Flaming Scooter, and a Jet or Two, 1950-77.
